First, I will be the man and admit that I was wrong about the Rangers. I really wanted them to win and thought they had a great shot this year. In fact they did. It's just that Buffalo had a better shot and closed them down in five games. Look, if I knew everything I wouldn't be sitting here writing, I would be a millionaire right? Bill Gates does not need to be concerned.
So looking at the teams left in the play-offs, I see that Detroit is just a few games out of the finals. And who of all players is carving up the ice and playing like in his prime? Chris Chelios! In 1989, when I was playing college hockey, Chelios was playing for the Stanley Cup for Montreal. He has been playing for twenty-three seasons.
Chelios started playing in the NHL in 1984. As they continue their series against the Anaheim Ducks, here is some things to think about. Teemu Sellanne is the oldest member of the Ducks. When Chelios first played in the NHL, Sellanne was fourteen. Out of the twenty-seven members of the Ducks taking on Chelio's Red Wings, tonight, only four were older than THEN in 1984. The youngest member of the Ducks, Corey Perrey WAS NOT EVEN BORN when Chelios was playing. These are guys who grew up with posters of Chelios on their walls, now they find themselves playing against their old hero.
And the amazing thing is that Chelios is not slowing down. He is perhaps the most fit player in the league. Every day, he rides a specially constructed exercise bike for forty-five minutes INSIDE A SAUNA!
All I can say now that my Rangers are out is.... Let's go Red Wings, let's Go Chelios
