I am starting to become a believer again. The Rangers put on a performance worthy of the good old days with Richter and Messier. They evened the series with Buffalo and now return to New York with a chance to go ahead. Actually, you have to give them the edge now since with the series split two apiece, it is simply a best of three series. Everyone knows that the Rangers dominate in short series.
The key for the players will be rest. Rest helps the players keep sharp and helps injuries heal. The playoffs are basically a second season (except for the teams that didn't make it who are working on their golf swings right now!) Not only are there are a lot of games being played with a greater frequency than during the regular season, but the emotion level of playoff games is sky-high.
During a normal game, you will put in bursts of speed and then try and slow down and catch a breather. During the playoffs, everyone is going 100 percent all the time. In playoff games, I used to measure my heart rate at 150 beats per minutes the entire time I was playing! (Most professional athletes know how to measure the heart rate by listening to their body. You don't need any equipment, you just know what it feels like for your heart to be racing). A typical NHL player will lose three pounds through perspiration in a playoff game. It's just that intense!
So I am calling for the Rangers to win the whole thing. Just remember, you heard it here first.
